WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT MONEY
• Proverbs 22:7 “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender.” • Warning : Debt creates financial bondage, limiting freedom and stewardship. • Romans 13:8 “Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.” • Application : The only debt God calls us to carry is the debt of love, which cannot be repaid in material terms. • Deuteronomy 15:6 “For the Lord your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none.” • Modern Insight : Financial independence reflects God’s blessings and positions believers to be a source of provision rather than burden. Fiat Currency and Trust in True Value While the Bible does not address modern fiat currency, it warns against placing trust in unstable, man-made systems of wealth. • Isaiah 55:2 “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy?” • Lesson : True satisfaction comes from God’s provision, not from things of fleeting value. • Proverbs 11:4 “Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.” • Warning : Material wealth without righteousness is ultimately meaningless. • Matthew 6:19-20 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven.” • Teaching : Earthly wealth is temporary; eternal riches endure forever. • Haggai 2:8 “The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, says the Lord of hosts.” • Insight : All wealth belongs to God, reinforcing the need to trust Him above earthly systems. Tithes and Offerings God calls His people to give generously as an act of faith, gratitude, and worship. • Malachi 3:10 “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, so that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” • Application : Tithing demonstrates trust in God’s provision and invites His blessings.
